Canada’s Spencer Hyde digs in deep with an added driving assignment last weekend…

The fast tracking Canadian driver for Jim Head Racing – who’s very competitive season so far has him currently sitting 7th in NHRA’s national Funny Car points standings – displayed his Pro Mod class “dark side” again this weekend, by also driving in that exciting category.

Spencer was behind the wheel of a supercharged ’67 Ford Mustang, normally driven by Stan Shelton within the NHRA’s JBS Equipment series. In that car Spencer qualified solidly #14 (5.754 secs). Spencer lined up against Lyle Barnett in round one of PM on Sunday but lost a 5.991 secs to 6.081 secs confrontation.

Hyde had to give his race car a quick pedal in the left lane during that run while Barnett was on a smooth pass beside him – and that was the difference.

“Any time I can get behind the wheel of a Pro Mod car I am ready to do that,” Hyde winked. “It helps keep you in race mode when you are constantly getting time on the track. I want to thank Team Shelton Motorsports for the chance. Lyle is a tough customer, and we knew we would have our hands full against him.”

While there are no immediate plans for Spencer to repeat this (at least at this point) fans shouldn’t be too surprised if a similar circumstance were to present itself again this season. Spencer’s abilities within Pro Mod cars is recognised pretty stellar – evidence his 2023 win at the DI World Series of Pro Mod event.

Spencer’s bid at the NHRA Southern Nationals in the Head Contractors & Engineers fuel Funny Car did end in round two last weekend. More details on that side of his event equation can be found on our co-production LMLC Media site post: HERE
