It’s going to be “cha-ching” for some NHRA class car racers at Cayuga Dragway!….coming soon….
The weekend of August 24-26th will see the return of NHRA’s PC Richard.com Northeast Division National Open event for the 3rd consecutive season to Toronto Motorsports Park.
That race, which showcases NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series class car competition does include some very special emphasis for it’s Super Stock and Stock eliminator racers. Thanks to Montreal’s John Scotti, an extremely devoute drag racing proponent, along with his Canadian Drag Racing Hall of Fame, those category drivers will compete for a very significant purse ($25,000 USF) – within the 2018 edition CDRHF Stock/Super Stock Shootout — very much a richer cash prize then they are used to.
The event, which will kick off on Friday evening, will include opportunities for racers to also run for official NHRA national records, will be a double header affair with winning drivers each day receiving official NHRA “Wallys” in addition to the cash purse.
“We are presenting the richest Stock/Super Stock combo event held anywhere in North America,” stated Bob Aubertin, the Director for the CDHOF and event co-coordinator. “We’ve had some great racer response in the past and this year we are expecting 100+ entries for Stock and Super Stock. That will most certainly add to the intensity of the event.”
Over the past two seasons, a racer propensity has been to travel far to participate. That included not only entries from all over Eastern Canada (including the Maritime provinces, Quebec and Ontario) but also from neighbouring USA states, New York, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Ohio.
“We think our event is also a perfect fit for racers heading down to Indy (the NHRA Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals) which begins the following week,” Bob added. “This race and Cayuga’s track surface offers an opportunity for those drivers to test in ideal conditions – so we encourage them to enter and stop by.”
The race costs $325 to pre-enter — for a potential major payoff in return. You can find more information about the purse and how to enter: HERE
The dynamic race also helps to provide important funding and exposure for the Canadian Drag Racing Hall of Fame – which is a not-for-profit important entity that helps to acknowledge and recognize the very deep history for the sport of drag racing in Canada. The CDRHF will host it’s annual induction ceremony this coming November in Montreal.
DragRaceCanada will post event results and photos from the 2018 NHRA National Open event later this month.
