A multitude of Canadian Sportsman drag racing Series’ were in action during Cayuga’s Labour Day weekend of drag racing….

The OSCA was well represented with their Heads Up classes on display for the weekend.

First up would be EZ Street where racers are stepping up and running some impressive numbers as the season comes closer to an end. Susie Stevens would be back in the lanes with her Maximum Performance 67 Camaro just weeks after having the car roll at the recent Canadian Street Car Nationals. Hard work and long hours by the team paid off as Susie qualified #8 with an 8.02 then won round #1 but lost in the second round still running an impressive 7.89 at 174mph.

Steve Falle of Cambridge Ontario would qualify his 88 Mustang in the top spot running 7.59 at 187 mph. Falle would meet up with #3 qualifier Mauro Briccardi and his ProCharged 88 Mustang GT in the semi finals. Falle cut a great light but spun the tires hard off the hit then could only watch as Briccardi pulled away running a stout 7.53 at 195 mph.

#2 qualifier Adrian Niedra of Barrie ON would get a bye in the semi’s and line his nitrous powered Mustang up against the ProCharged Stang of Briccardi. Adrian had a slight starting line advantage but Mauro was able to charge by at the stripe to take the win running his 4th 7.50 pass in a row, this time a 7.56 at 191mph. Niedra kept it close with his starting line advantage but his 7.62 at 180mph wasn’t quite enough on this day.

OSCA King of the Street Bikes would pit the two fastest bikes in qualifying against each other in the finals. #1 qualifier Chris Fenech of Toronto, ON., would line up his all motor Kawasaki ZX14 against the all motor Suzuki GSXR1000 of #2 qualifier Joe Carlos. Carlos put on a riding display as he hiked the front wheel and powered through a high speed wheelie trying to stay out in front as he approached half track. Fenech was well off his usual pace only managing an 8.65 at 163mph as Carlos even after his wheelie laid down an 8.25 at 159mph to take the well deserved win.

OSCA’s newest class, Pro 24 has been dominated by Paul Bhawan and his 2000 Honda Civic this season but Frank K of Hamilton, ON would qualify in the top spot running 9.31 at 170mph. Unfortunately Frank would lose in the semi’s setting up the all Civic final as Bhawan would take on Eric Gouveia. Bhawan would dip into the 8’s in the semi’s then would run 9.01 in the finals to take the win over Gouveia who ran 9.51.

The Smith Performance Specialites CanAm Stock/Super Stock circuit was also a big part of the long weekend racing festivities. On Saturday 29 cars were in the lanes for first round and after 5 very hotly contested rounds Chuck Nagy in his GT/TB S10 was the winner over Tony Valerio at the wheel of his high flying H/CM Camaro. With that win, and with only three events remaining, Nagy has built an almost insurmountable lead towards clinching the 2015 Can-Am title.

Niagara Falls racer Chuck Nagy is on the cusp of winning the 2015 Can-Am Stock/SS points championship.

Sunday’s race saw 29 cars again out of the gate with the win going to Steve McGrath ’73 Dart H/SA over Brian Clayton’s Super Stock Camaro which had a red light start in the final.

Andrew Stirk’s **DSE series was also on hand and would provide fans with a chance to see some of the tightest racing of the year as the series had a record number of racers competing in their last event of the season.  (Those results are posted below).

**In a “bombshell” announcement however (for various reasons) that series has decided to pull the plug ending its 5 year reign as one of the area’s most popular and successful organization.  Additional details on that matter will be posted to:  www.dseautomotive.ca
