Canada’s rather thriving injected nitro dragster class family will grow by one this season with the scheduled emergence of another Western Canadian race car…..

Edmonton’s Serge Dion, who reputation as a skilled craftsman and fabricator and valued crew member within Western Canada’s drag racing scene is well known, is planning some appearances this summer with his own NHRA TAD injected nitro car.

For Dion, who formally raced in the TAD class with Ken and Steve Sitko, 2015 will mark a changing of the racing landscape for him.

During 2014, Serge did make a couple of test laps at Castrol Raceway in his Mike Bowen-chassied Dyno Racing dragster which features a motor program and tune-up by Bill Reichart. For this coming season he now hopes to further build on that start.

“Before this car the last time I drove was in 2004 before I sold my complete racing operation to New Zealand’s Mark Vincent,” Serge said. “Since then I’ve been fortunate to be involved with a few teams including most recently Jimmy Fersch’s “Bulldogger” Nostalgia Funny car and Don St. Arnaud’s A/FD team.”

“Over time and with help from Jimmy and Don I’ve been able to put together this race car 100% in-house and with my own money,” he added. “The real reason I got into this A/FD is because of the challenge involved in how to make it run properly — but it is in fact more of a hobby. I also would like to do some rentals with it — to maybe help develop some licensing for new interested drivers and to also run a few races as permitted.”

Originally from Quebec City, Serge Dion has now resided in the Edmonton area since 1981. During his 3-4 years with the Sitko team (later 1990’s-2000’s) that team’s biggest claim to fame together was winning two NHRA Canadian Open events and two AHRA World Finals races (at Spokane) – with a supercharged car.

“Back then that was an extremely good partnership — that got all this started,” Serge reflected. “The eventual split was so that Ken could then race with son Nathan – that was the plan from day one.”

Serge plans are to ease back into the sport in 2015 in a calculated fashion and he was quick to cite help from Sean Brown, Cathy Reid, Jimmy Fersch and Don St. Arnaud for his return.
