Some photo highlights of Canadian racers who descended to SoCal for the 58th running of the Lucas Oil Winternationals…..

Shawn Cowie continued his winning propensity at Pomona – winning his 11th career NHRA title during the Winternationals. Shawn’s talented team (from Surrey BC) definitely set the tone for the upcoming 2018 season with that impressive performance!

Mike and Jackie Lucas entered the event’s Top Sportsman class with their NHRA Division 6 championship Camaro which is based from Ft. St. John BC. Mike had a 2nd round finish at Pomona.

Wily veteran racer Rick Pike (from Langley BC) ran his classic ’56 Chevy SS/NA to a 3rd round finish in Super Stock

Grant Durie was the top finishing Canadian in Top Dragster class racing – he won three rounds in his Alberta-based TNT chassis car.

Canadian drag racing motorcycle proponent Kevin Boyer raced his Team Ace Racing machine in the event’s M/T Harley Davidson class – but lost out in round #1

Sherwood Park Alberta’s Norm Lapointe had a very nice effort with his now reconfigured GT/GA Colbalt – he went all the way to round #4 in Super Stock before a red-light start ended his advance.

The TS class at Pomona included two other far northern based Canadian qualifiers – John Tiesen (top) Grand Prairie AB and Glen Foster (Ft. St. John BC)

Richmond BC’s Rick McKinney made a nice statement in Super Stock with his SS/LA ’84 Olds – winning 3 rounds of competition.

Pomona Raceway TAD track speed record holder Don St. Arnaud was a bit off pace at Pomona this time – qualifying 10th and then losing out in round one.

Calgary’s Mike Scott rode this TF Harley to an impressive 6.646 secs at 207.40 mph during qualifying – but had to withdraw from competition after putting his machine into the top end sand trap on Saturday.

Timeless veteran Western Canadian driver Don Thomas was once again a familiar face representing Canadian Super Stock class racing at Pomona’s Winternationals.

More really good stuff from Alberta’s Darcy Clarke who entered his well prepped and strong running Mopar cars in both Stock and Super Stock eliminators!

Sherwood Park’s Trevor Ritchie gave the TD eliminator a go – he qualified #9 – but was clipped in round one of competition.
