New Canadian participation within one of NHRA’s highest tech Pro categories in the making….
If plans continue accordingly, 2026 will see a Canadian racer enter the mix within NHRA’s elite Pro Stock Motorcycle division.
Quebec City area native Mathieu Dubé, who is no stranger within both Canadian drag snowmobile and motorcycle racing, is on target to become what our history annuls and recollection shows, as only the second Canadian racer* to ever compete within that very demanding NHRA class.
Mathieu will jump into those water with a formidable machine — a certified PSM tagged in 2025. That is a Suzuki TL 1000r clad over a Kosman Chromoly chassis. The motor program is a Suzuki GS 1850cc — with a Vance & Hines 2 valves Hemi head and stroker crank.
Mathieu comprises one half of the MLR/2M Motorsports racing team, joined by his backer Michel Levesque.
“We are making our move to the NHRA Pro stock motorcycle this coming season,” Dubé revealed. “I did secure my PSM license last November (at Las Vegas).”
“All the credit goes to my friend Michel Levesque who always believed in me,” Mathieu emphasised. “We are doing this together. Without him I would not be here. I first met Michel at the track where he had a 2018 Pro Stock Bike (above photo). I was in disbelief to see that in real life and as fate would have it — he offered up me a chance to rent it for a race — on my birthday! From that point on — we ended up being best friends.”
“We then evolved and ran a full tube chassis bike (with 10 inch slicks) that he built in 2021. That was a bracket bike and I made maybe 300 runs on that with a hand clutch and no auto shift – just like the Pro Stock bikes — which gave us a great basis. The for the last 3 years everything in our power went towards this goal. Being both lifetime fans of NHRA Pro Stock motorcycles we talked about it and just went for it. We had been consulting with Gary Stoffer and Greg Underdahl for a good 2 years while planning my licensing and sourcing parts for this new bike build.”
“I feel so blessed to be at that point in my life and racing career — now with a NHRA Pro license — and this opportunity.”
Right now MLR/2M Motorsports is looking to make their competition debut during the 2nd half of 2026, after scheduling some more test sessions first.
“Our target is September at the US 131 (Great Lakes Nationals) in Michigan,” he added. “It may be possible that we could run earlier (at Norwalk) but only if the tests are conclusive.”
Thus the team’s planned “walk before we run” race schedule for beyond that — would be revealed at a later date.
*Currently Mathieu Dubé is the only NHRA PSM licensee from Canada. That Canadian class category first was achieved by Alberta’s Kristen Ashby, who raced a Suzuki Hayabusa for Calgary’s RBR (Rob Blair Racing) within a limited NHRA national event schedule back in 2016.
