Nostalgia Project Earning Rave Reviews

One very cool development within Canada’s drag racing scene during 2013 included appearances of a meticulous project from Ontario’s Doug Cadman, who turned concept to reality for many fans of Nostalgia Funny Car racing….

Cadman, who is the founder and President of Trackless MT Vehicles (Courtland), full-filled a personal passion when he unveiled and debuted a nitro-burning 1973 Dodge Charger “Chi-Town Hustler” replica — one of the single most famous Funny Car names of all time.

Doug admitted that like many true drag racing fans out there (including yours truly), during his early days growing up his love for the sport included building and collecting many drag racing scale models.   But unlike most, Doug was able to take that early passion to the ultimate, by building a full scale and fully operational version of what was for him personally – an all time favourite race car.

Doug Cadman's Chi-Town Hustler replica FC has been an immediate fan favourite car car since it's debut.

“Growing up as a kid I followed Funny Car racing very closely and the Chi-Town Hustler always amazed me,” Doug confided.  “I loved everything about it from the cool body style to the paint scheme.”

Fast forward to later in life and after building up his very successful business — Doug had put himself into a position financially to follow his dream.

“Back in 2007 I actually bought the original 1973 Chi-Town Hustler – which was driven by several famous racers — the last being Ron Colson,” he continued.  “But it had a shorter wheelbase (118 inches) and instead of revamping and racing it – I wanted to preserve it.  So I decided to build a new duplicate version (125 inches) because that would be a lot safer too.  Advanced Chassis (in Ohio) did the chassis and over the next couple of years my brother Wayne and I did all the assembly and body work ourselves.  The car was actually finished during the spring of 2012 — and we tested it a bit last year.  But this year we were a lot more active with it and in the end had the car going down the track consistently like it was supposed to do.”

Since it’s debut Cadman’s machine has been a total hit with Canadian drag racing fans. It has been a feature car within Canada’s NDRA events as well as at select match races.  It’s popularity is as positive as it’s performance and that includes a best run of 6.30 secs at 230+ mph so far.

Doug Cadman is for sure a total gear head, and this Funny Car is just part of a very formidable race car collection which he owns personally.   That stable includes a wickedly cool supercharged and alcohol-burning  ’55 Thunderbird which he previously campaigned.

“The T-Bird is parked right now,” he advised. “My focus and concentration is on the Nostalgia Funny Car going forward.”
