OSCA Round #4 Report
Beautiful weather conditions were the call of the weekend as the Ontario Street Car Association rolled into Toronto Motorsports Park for round 4 of the 2013 race season……
The hotly contested EZ Street class has been getting faster with each event. Vince Melao put his PSP prepped 89 Mustang into the 7’s for the first time, eventually getting the car down to a 7.77 to qualify #4. Melao unfortunately lost in the first round against Matt Glassford who ran his career best pass of 7.81 at 189mph. Eric Phillips from Stratford, ON., unloaded his turbocharged 92 Mustang off the trailer and stopped the timers in 7.73 seconds to solidly put him in the #2 spot after the first qualifier. Rob Galli went into the event in the top spot in points so after all the fast times in qualifying he was looking for a strong showing to stay out in front. Qualifying #3, Galli would make his way through the rounds to meet up with #1 qualifier George Tserbis in the finals. Tserbis ran an EZ street record of 7.56 at 190mph in round #1 and backed it up with a 7.63 in the second round. When the lights came down in the finals, Galli nailed the tree with a .020 reaction time. His nitrous powered 02 Camaro would stay out in front of the Turbo Mustang of Tserbis and take the stripe first running 7.75 at 180mph to Tserbis’ 7.90 at 161mph.
The lone competitor to make it to eliminations in Pro Stock was Ryan Silva in the PSP built 94 Mustang. Silva would run the car hard to an 8.57 at 156mph.
Street Eliminator finals would be see the 87 Mustang of Matt Searle from Ancaster taking on the 86 Mustang of Chris Damovski. Damovski left first but Searle made up the starting line difference and stayed out front to take the win running 10.60 at 127mph to Damovski’s 11.90 at 113mph.
The King of the Street bike class has had some exciting racing action as of late with these street legal bikes dipping into the 8.50 zone and hitting 160+mph. JP Calandra of Brampton, ON had his all motor Hayabusa running like a bracket bike all weekend long. An 8.57 in the semi’s set the stage as Calandra would line up against the 2003 Hayabusa of Mike Mildon in the finals. JP got out first and stayed in front of the hard charging Mildon running 8.60 at 159mph to Mildon’s 8.72 at 162mph.
Peter Thomson of Burlington, On., would take on Chris Fox of Owen Sound, ON in the CMDRA Harley Destroyer class that was taking part in the OSCA festivities. Fox got out first with Thomson right behind. It was close at the line as Thomson took the win running 9.26 to Fox’s 9.28.
As an added treat, a wide variety of test and tuners were in the lanes taking advantage of the sticky track conditions and that included:
- Jeff Veale was out testing a new setup in their Nitro Injected Top Alcohol Dragster.
- Richard Peppler of RCC Turbos brought out his wicked Pro Street turbo Hayabusa Piloted by Bud Yoder
- Long OSCA competitor Marc Gervais ran his first 6 second pass while out testing his new Top Sportsman Camaro.
