Western Canadian drag racing fans are in for a treat this coming season — courtesy of a popular veteran racer….

Some say the Pro Mod class racing trend has/is becoming more and more cookie cutting — but there is one Western Canadian who is most definitely bucking that notion.

Edmonton area’s Cal Tebb is a well known and successful racer name in Alberta and a very frequent runner throughout the long history at RAD Torque Raceway (Leduc AB).  And now for the year 2025 (and beyond) Tebb is set well to continue that popularity and reputation.

After unveiling a new creation for the first time to the public during a car show in February (Speedway Market – Stony Plain AB) – he is now poised to unleash his machine on the drag strip surface – coming soon.

Tebb, who over the past decade+ had been racing his very unique alcohol fuelled Pontiac GTO Funny Car – will instead now change gears behind the wheel of an outrageous and true show car quality — ’33 Willys Panel Pro Modified.

“About three years ago, I saw an ad on Kijiji in Saskatchewan,” Cal revealed. “It was for an abandoned project that was started back in 2005 and that hadn’t been worked on in years — which was sitting in storage in a sea can.”

After making that deal — Cal went to work focused on savaging the Willys’ full body and also the back half of the chassis. The racecar chassis was then sent off to reputed Hollasch Race Cars and Fabrication (Bonnyville AB) where a major transformation undertaken by builder Robert Hollasch came. The end result was a new chassis — now 25.1, 6.0 certified.

Cal then transferred the complete powertrain from his former GTO alcohol funny car – including an AJ 481X, Crower clutch and Lenco transmission. Cal confirmed that he did sell the remainder of his former GTO to a racer located in Idaho.

“All the Willys body modifications were done at Doug‘s Fibreglass in Edmonton,” Cal continued. “Right from the beginning of this project — I had a dream for this car to be gold. That task went to Landon Goudreau who mixed us up the perfect colour.  Joey Steckler then did a lot of the prep work and he let us use the booth at his shop (Joey’s Place) to apply the gold colour – we couldn’t happier about the final results.”

“We absolutely love the Nostalgic look of this car, including that awesome Enderle Barn Door injector (below photo),” he smiled. “This car is a bit unorthodox — but a completely legal Pro Mod – which was our intention.”Cal revealed that his “Fast Moonshine Willys” will make its first test passes in Edmonton – likely sometime in May. After that he will be scheduled in for several season feature events back at his home track RAD Torque Raceway.

Cal Tebb also affirmed he will also be back behind the wheel of a Nostalgia Nitro Funny Car this summer. After debuting in that class for the first time last year behind the wheel of Nathan Sitko’s “Arctic Traveller” Mustang – he will make some repeat appearances in the car this season.

Cal Tebb’s previously raced Pontiac GTO Funny Car was one of Canada’s all time famous unique creations.

Cal Tebb did upgrade his license to include Nitro Nostalgia Funny Car class racing last season — he will make appearances in that class again the summer.
