ADRL Nor-Easter is Record Smashing Affair

The American Drag Racing League did a touch down for the first time in its history in the U.S. Northeast at Maple Grove Raceway (Reading PA).  The event, which was not concluded when rain caused a major delay, was still a record smashing affair….

The Inaugural Penske Truck Leasing Inaugural Northeast Drags produced a number of firsts for the series and reset some ADRL 1/8th mile records.

Texan Frankie Taylor came away with a new ADRL P/X ET mark hitting an amazing 3.581 secs driving his Corvette.  Taylor jockeyed with fellow class racer Joey Martin for that mark – Martin had set it on a provisional basis on Friday at 3.584 secs.

Taylor’s machine received sponsorship from Ken Koretsky’s Nitro Fish Company for the Pennsylvania event.

Records also took a beating in the ADRL’s other marquee class too – Pro Nitrous.

Driving his Speedtech-sponsored Camaro, Qatar’s Al-Balooshi roared to history making first ever 200+ mph runs in the 1/8th mile setting the speed mark officially at 200.53 mph and using a back up of 200.38 mph.

Al-Balooshi also collected the ADRL world ET record at 3.786 secs.  His mid-eastern country rival racer Mahana Al-Naemi was in fact quicker – hitting an all-time quick 3.776 secs, also driving his Camaro – but Al-Naemi could not back up that ET within the required percentage.

Mahana Al-Naemi ran the quickest 1/8 mile Pro Nitrous time in history - 3.776 secs!

Steady rains hit the facility mid-Saturday and that delayed racing more than four hours.  Officials did attempt to dry things out but then ran into track curfew restrictions.

Thus the Inaugural Northeast Drags did not crown winners in its five professional classes (Pro Extreme, Pro Nitrous, Extreme 10.5, Pro Extreme Motorcycle and Extreme Pro Stock).  As per the policy in the official ADRL rulebook, the event is considered complete and competitors were awarded purse and points up to the finished point in the race.

The series will move on to it’s fourth stop of 2011 ADRL Tour, June 17-18 at Heartland Park Topeka in Topeka, Kansas. for the Independence Drags V.
