All Canadian Comp Final!
Fort St. John B.C. based racer Mike McKeigue earned the biggest win of his career so far during NHRA’s O’Reilly Northwest Nationals held near Seattle last weekend…
Driving his great-looking Dodge Stratus C/AA, McKeigue was a rather unexpected winner in the Competition eliminator category, topping Alberta’s Casey Plaizier in the exciting all Canadian final round.
McKeigue, managed to overcome a rather tardy start (.105 RT) to nip Plaizier’s Chevy Cavalier (which is owned by Ken Reich) right at the finish line. Mike ran a winning time of 7.392 secs at 184.57 mph compared to Casey’s 8.191 secs at 164.43 mph.
McKeigue had entered eliminations in the #8 qualifying slot after running a 7.366 secs during time trials. His first ever NHRA national event victory also included round wins over Dennis Myers, Randy Johns and Matt Hartford.
R/UP Plaizier, who did have troubles earlier in the event before bouncing back strong, had qualified last #23 of 23 cars entered in the category.
