There will be an impressive number of Canadian racers attending next week’s marquee Jegs Sportsman All Stars event in Chicagoland…..
The 2015 Jegs Sportsman All Stars event – regarded as the single most prestigious event for NHRA Lucas Oil Sportsman class racers of the season, will feature no less then six Canadian drivers in Competition.
The annual race-within-a-race event, which happens in conjunction with NHRA’s Route 66 Nationals, showcases the best Sportsman class drag racers in the world within a lucrative and very prestigious separate program. Only the top drag racers in ten different categories from each of NHRA’s seven geographical divisions are represented following a demanding qualifying formula.
Coming from Western Canada, two drivers who qualified for the race last year, will make repeat trips. From NHRA’s Pacific Northwest Division Six, British Columbia’s Dan Provost (Top Dragster) and Mike Shannon (Super Comp 8.90) have made the grade again.
Those two will be joined by Alberta’s prolific Super Gas (9.90) racer Eddy Plaizier. Also towing in from the West to represent the division are Albertan’s, Mike Williams (Tilley) in Top Sportsman and Clarence Bidniak (Edmonton) in Stock eliminator – both who are making their first career All Stars event appearances.
Also making a return and representing Eastern Canada and NHRA Division One, is Kingston Ontario’s Jason Kenny. Jason will be the Northeast Division rep in both Super Comp 8.90 and Super Gas 9.90 (!) The 2015 race will see Kenny attempt to win the Sportsman classic for the second time — after winning this race back in 2010.
The 6 racers representing Canada in 2015 ties the 2010 event record for Canadian participants in the Jegs All Stars race. The 2015 Jegs All Stars competition will be run off and completed during the Saturday of the Route 66 Nationals schedule.
DragRaceCanada will post an additional post-race feature of the results following the event.
