Castrol Raceway RMNFC Update

The weekend of Sept. 20-21 should have marked the final race weekend in the season for the Rocky Mountain Nostalgia Funny Car series for 2014….

Cal Tebb sits at the cusp of clinching the 2014 RMNFC points championship.

Cal Tebb sits at the cusp of clinching the 2014 RMNFC points championship.

Current points leader and defending series champion Cal Tebb entered the weekend with a 50 point lead over second place contender Jimmy Fersch but the weekend being another doubleheader event could really shake up the current point standings.

Unfortunately, partway through early eliminations on Sunday – the timing system stopped recording ¼ time/mph.  While the system worked fine up until the 1/8th mile mark, this caused some schedule/format changes and also the RMNSC made the decision to perform only exhibition runs for the remainder of the Sunday. There is no official word yet on if the season will end and crown the champion with the results from Saturdays racing.

The schedule changes also moved Jr Dragster to the front of the line while they tried to sort out the computer system as they only run for the 1/8th mile competitively. With Jr. Dragsters completed the decision was made to change the format to 8th mile eliminations, This called the first round of “Box” class back to the lanes to rerun first round eliminations., drivers/crews marked an 1/8th mile index on the cars and racing resumed. This made it somewhat of a challenge to all involved as some had issues with keeping the car consistent with numbers they are not normally dealing with.

There is still no official word on the standings after the races were completed. While the weekend seemed to have issues the hospitable track staff and understanding drivers seemed to make it work for a beautiful day of racing.
