Canadian drag racing’s all time most prolific winning driver ups his career win tally…again!…
Defending 2024 NHRA Lucas Oil World Champion Shawn Cowie displayed his true colours during NHRA’s recent 4-Wide Nationals held at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
When Shawn sped past his final round quad opponents, Matt Cummings, Mitch Myers and Joey Severence with a 5.271 secs 275.39 mph clocking, that upped his career NHRA national event collection of “Wallys” to 27. That number (all within the Top Alcohol Dragster category) is by far the biggest accumulation by any Canadian drag racing driver within NHRA’s rich history.
Driving his feared supercharged Mundies Towing & Recovery sponsored dragster, Shawn once again affirmed the justification of concern for all his class racing opponents. The Las Vegas race was yet another tell tale story and near picture perfect event performance.
After qualifying #1 over the very swift 16-car field at 5.235 secs (@ 276.97 mph Top Speed) – Shawn was dominate on race day as he recorded the quickest ET during all three of his quad groupings – including a 5.233 secs in round two which was low ET of the event. His win was also his 3rd straight event win at the LV track – including both NHRA nationals events held there last year.

The Shawn Cowie route to his 27th career NHRA national event win included qualifying #1 and setting both low ET and top speed.
“I love this track,” he stated. “We have been coming here for years and my guys were on the mark all weekend and for us everything seemed to fall into place. Over time we’ve also definitely learned about what the car wants for the conditions here.”
The victory was also Shawn’s first since his amazing NHRA World title last year and now with a highly prestigious #1 now emblazed to his rear wing.
“It’s been a pretty good start for us,” Shawn added. “We ran well at Pomona (to the semis there) — but as far as defending our championship — there’s obviously still a lot of year left and a lot of great cars in the mix!”
Shawn was quick to credit the win to his all his supporters. “A big thanks to my crew — Thom, Pat, Jon, Dan, Jim and James. My wife, Taylor and our kids and my sponsors — Mundie’s Towing, NGK Spark Plugs, West Can Auto Parts and Core Garage Solutions.”
