Nitro Nationals Horses at the Gate!

Get ready racing fans —  Canada’s largest and most important independent drag racing event is only one week away!….tick…tock…tick…tock…

Cayuga Dragway at Toronto Motorsports Park is only days away from hosting its 3rd annual edition of the Canadian Nitro Nationals – June 22-24th.

Headlining for the second year in a row will be NHRA Full Throttle Series Fuel Funny Car stars Cruz and Tony Pedregon.  The Brothers will bring their 7000 HP Funny Cars to Cayuga for their one and only scheduled Canadian event stop of the season.

At this year’s race Tony and Cruz, who both have NHRA World Championships to their credits; will showcase some of the very latest machinery and technology.  Both will drive all new 2012 Toyota Camry bodied cars.  Cruz Pedregon will be racing his Snap-On Tools-sponsored car, one of the circuit’s quickest machines, while Brother Tony will wheel his equally impressive STP-sponsored machine.

“Cruz and I are even more excited about coming then we were last year,” said Tony Pedregon.  “On this trip we now know what to expect and because we now have a bit of history there that will affect our approach and performance.”

“It (Cayuga Dragway) is a really great facility and the fans were so very supportive of us being there – and we really appreciated that.”

Cruz and Tony will be part of an impressive Professional car line-up for this year’s event.

Chicagoland's Dale Creasy will return to Cayuga's Nitro Nationals for the 3rd straight season

Also in nitro Funny Cars, the event will include the return of two of the circuits most talented and popular independent drivers, wily Jack Wyatt fromIowa, and Chicagoland’s Dale “Peanut” Creasy.  For both Jack and Dale, the 2012 event will mark their third straight year appearing at the Canadian Nitro Nationals.

Top Fuel car owner John LaPorte

The race will also feature for the first time an Eastern versus Western head-to-head matchup for Canadian Top Fuel superiority.   Edmonton’s Tim Boychuk, a star driver within North America’s nostalgia Funny Car scene has been pegged to drive the all new Top Fuel dragster owned by John LaPorte (from Oshawa) and will make his first ever runs in that car at Cayuga.

“One again I had to ask my friend and mentor Barry Paton — about who would be a good choice to drive my car at the Nitro Nationals,” said LaPorte “Without hesitation he said Tim Boychuk.  Tim is  always a strong competitor and a gentleman and I look forward to giving him this opportunity.”

Tim will face off against versatile Pro Mod and Top Fuel driver Ike “Oscar” Maier, who will once again take the controls of “The Captain” (Barry Paton’s) Tim Hortons-sponsored dragster (based fromParis ON).

Add to all that a terrific field of Pro Alcohol Funny Cars presented by the all new NDRA circuit as well as event #3 for the ever popular PMRA Pro Modified category.

The Canadian Nitro Nationals will also include Canada's best Pro Mod Racing circuit

Simply put – it is a marquee Canadian drag racing happening that is not to be missed.
