OSCA – June Update

The Ontario Street Car Association rolled into Cayuga Dragway @ Toronto Motorsports Park for its second race weekend of the 2014 season….

The cool start to the weekend would have the fastest cars on the grounds, EZ Street flying.

Vince Melao wasn’t out for race number one but proved he is going to be a contender this season after his performance in qualifying as he layed down an impressive 7.66 at 189 mph to put himself atop the ladder. A bye in the first round would put Melao up against the 1994 Mustang of Paul Silva in round #2. Silva would leave first and pull away as Melao spun hard and could only watch as the ProCharged Mustang posted a 7.85 at 180mph on the boards.

With the consistency of a bracket car, Silva would defeat Matt Glassford in the semifinals with a 7.82 setting up a repeat final from race #1 where he took on the small block powered 86 Mustang of Ernie Zambri. Zambri put a string of impressive runs together throughout the day with his best being a 7.69 in the semi’s. His consistency would continue right into the finals. When the light went green Silva got out first but he blew the tires off ending his chances and giving Zambri the easy win on his way to running a stout 7.71.

PSP power has been unstoppable so far this season as Zambri and the man himself Paul Silva have been to both EZ Street finals in the OSCA as well as the finals of the PTRA East vs West ShoutOut early in May where Silva was victorious.

Street Eliminator was an all Fox Mustang affair as the Fox body’s seem to be the favourite amongst racers in this class. A battle of 87’s would have Matt Searle and Tony Nicoletti battling it out in the finals. Searle had a slight starting line advantage and was able to stay out in front taking the victory with a 10.43 to Nicoletti’s 10.67.

Black Cat Pub King of the Street bike was a repeat of race #1 finals as Joe Carlos aboard his 2004 GSXR 1000 took on the ZX14 of Chris Fenech. Fenech experienced problems and could only watch as Carlos pulled away then slowed at the line to a 9.36 as Fenench coasted to a 20.27.
