PMRA Round #3 Put On Hold

A rather untimely and unfortunate major oil down has delayed the scheduled conclusion to last weekend’s South Coast Community Weekend event at TMP’s Cayuga Dragway….

The final rounds for the Pro Modified Racing Association, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and the Pro Bike & Sled Series were postponed during the South Coast Community Weekend race on the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park.  Those will all be made up during the upcoming Canadian Nitro Nationals at the same track July 12-14. That will complete the third race of the 2013 season for all series.

Once again Rocky Di Lecce led the PMRA in qualifying, and the Mississauga, Ontario driver has a chance of making PMRA history if he wins the race, which would be his third in a row with his Camaro. After making it to the final round today, he will be facing stiff competition with three-time IHRA Funny Car champion Rob Atchison of London, Ontario, who qualified second with his Corvette Pro Modified.

Presented by NAPA Auto Parts, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series also completed all but its final event round, which will feature the Top Dragster of Lance Orr from Shawville, Quebec taking on Top Sportsman finalists Rob Gray of Ingersoll, Ontario. Gray has been to the winner’s circle in Top Sportsman racing, while Orr is still seeking his first victory. Gray took out Tom Orr, also of Shawville, in the Top Sportsman final, while Lance Orr defeated Tony Positano of Toronto, Ontario to advance to the event final, which pits the finalists in Top Dragster and Top Sportsman.

With one PBSS win to his credit in 2013, Dan Cryderman will have another chance at victory, as the Thamesville, Ontario Pro Bike rider will meet up in the final round with Pro Bike rider Dave Vandereyken of Acton, Ontario. Both ride Suzuki motorcycles, and Cryderman qualified number one in the PBSS presented by Wiseco Performance Products field with Vandereyken qualifying sixth.

Last Saturday’s schedule did include the conclusion of a previously postponed race from Martin Michigan last May when both the Quick 32 Sportsman Series and the PBSS declared winners in each series.

Winning his first ever Quick 32 Sportsman Series race was Sam Christian with his Top Dragster. The Amherst, New York driver met up with and eliminated two-time series champion Kevin Wicke for the event final, and took the win with a 6.822, 198.32 over Wicke’s 6.876, 202.24. Christian eliminated Vardy in the Top Dragster final, and Wicke took out Spencer Hyde of Stratford, Ontario in the Top Sportsman final.

PBSS champion Ted Glinny notched another win in the postponed Michigan race, riding to victory with a 8.499, 152.74 final over Marty Kuiack in an all-Pro Bike final. Both riders are from Milton, Ontario, and both ride Kawasakis.
