Smokie’s Garage presents major Pro Mod event results from three circuit fronts!….
PDRA ProStars Payday!
Pro Modified veteran Fredy Scriba celebrated his first career Switzer Dynamics Pro Nitrous victory at Virginia Motorsports Park’s PBR Night of Fire (July 13th). Racing in the fourth annual Summit Racing Equipment PDRA ProStars all-star specialty event, Scriba defeated three-time and defending world champion Tommy Franklin in the final round.
Al though championship points weren’t on the line, the invitation only special edition ProStars race marked the halfway point in the 2024 Red Line Oil PDRA Drag Racing Series season.
Scriba, from Maryland, had appeared in two out of the four Pro Nitrous final rounds this season, Driving his new Robert Hayes-built, Musi-powered ’69 Camaro, Scriba used a holeshot advantage and a 3.713-second pass at 209.01 MPH to get the final-round win over three-time and reigning world champion Tommy Franklin, who ran a quicker 3.694 at 205.54.
Scriba had raced to wins over Dane Wood and Perkinson in earlier rounds.
For Pro Boost it was defending world champion Jason Harris who broke through to claim his first win of his championship defence season.
Harris drove his ProCharged Party Time Racing/Southern Diamond Company ’69 Camaro to a 3.635 at 205.13 mph (his quickest pass of the day in the final round to put a punctuation mark on a $15,000 win. His opponent, Johnny Camp, had to shut off after the burnout after developing a leak.
Harris threw down low E.T. of the first round, at 3.663 at 205.38, to defeat Camp for the first time of the day and then went even quicker in the semifinals, streaking to a 3.647 at 205.79 to move on past Melanie Salemi, who had to lift to a 4.382.
MWDRS – St. Louis
Summit Racing Mid-West Drag Racing Series presented by J&A Service LLC descended on St Louis’ World Wide Technology Raceway over the weekend of June 28th for the KSHE 95 Night of Fire & Thunder!
The well attended Stroud Safety Pro Mod class hosted 21 cars, with a great mix of power adders! Nearly half the field [10 cars] came equipped with screw blowers, six with nitrous, turbos accounting for two and Procharger powering the final three.
Mark Micke’s turbo car took the #1 Qualifier spot, for the third consecutive event, with a 3.636 at 215.10, the quickest and fastest pass of the event.
Brandon Snider’s Screw Blown ‘63 Corvette was Second Qualifier, and quickest Screw Blown car, with a 3.667 at 202.15. Keith Haney was the Quickest Nitrous car, qualifying fourth with a 3.700 at 202.45.
Round One of Eliminations was an all out assault by the screw blower cars, with five cars moving on. Mark Micke and Ed Thornton’s turbo cars made it past Round One and Keith Haney was the lone nitrous racer to make Round Two. The Quickest Pass of Round One went to Mark Micke with a 3.654. We also saw Ryan Bush make his debut in Pro Mod Eliminations as an alternate after Keith Goolsby failed to make E1.
Turbo cars did well in Round Two with Ed moving past Keith and Mark over Tommy Cunnignham. Brandon outran Aaron Wells and Ron Muenks was quicker than Robert Costa. This setup a Turbo VS Turbo and Screw VS Screw Round Three. Ed and Mark ran side by side for maybe the best pass of the Pro Mod Class! Ed ran a possible PB with his 3.668 to Mark’s 3.658. Mark cut a huge 0.004 light, the best reaction time of the class. Snider would move past Muenks with a 3.655 for the quickest pass of the Round.
Sadly, the rain would make its way on track before the Finals could be run so Mark and Brandon elected to run the Finals in Q2 of the next scheduled event — at US 131 Martin MI – in September.
Season Round Three!
The West Coast Pro Modified tour held it’s third event of the season during the Rocky Mountain Nationals event at Edmonton’s RAD Torque Raceway
Facility.
That 8-car 1/8th mile shootout event featured a first time circuit winner with Turnover-WA based driver Ryan Griffin emerging the winner.
Racing his twin-turbo 1967 Mustang, Griffin dialled up the power in the final round to take a convincing 3.913 to 4.091 secs decision from Canadian Scott Blake and his 950 CID nitrous-injected Camaro from Red Deer AB.
Blake was the quickest of the eight class cars present at the event roaring to an impressive 3.806 secs in the semi final round – a new RAD Torque Racing track ET record.
The WCPM boys (& gals) will return to Edmonton on August 14th for that track’s highly popular Hot August Night evening event.
