Racing Restaurateur

Canadian Pro Modified driver Raymond Commisso has revealed a bit of a deviation for his racing plans for the 2013 season….Commisso, who is the co-owner of Toronto’s critically acclaimed Dimmi Bar and Trattoria, will be in the restaurant expansion mode this season and because of that will be scaling back his Pro Mod class racing schedule.

Raymond and his partner Les Chan have confirmed plans to open a second restaurant location and then possibly add a third later in 2013.   The business move comes as a result of the long time and runaway popularity of the original Dimmi Bar and Trattoria (located at 140 Cumberland) which regularly attracts visiting international celebrities as well as local patrons of fine dining.

“This expansion is going to require a lot of my attention,” Raymond confided.  “We are taking possession of the new location today (Jan. 1st) which is located in Woodbridge in the Highway 7 and Islington area.  It will be known as Dimmi Market Lane, and after completing some renovations it will reopen in March.   We also have a third possible location in the works and once the ball gets rolling on that it would come later in the year.   All of our restaurants will feature our signature gourmet Italian cuisine and specialties.”

Raymond then affirmed that he will continue to race his supercharged Chevy Camaro in 2013 but on a much more limited basis and as time permits.

“I still plan to do a few events here and there,” he stated.  “But I will be staying closer to home because of these business reasons.  I will likely run PMRA, ADRL and NHRA races at some point.   My intention is to keep the car up-to-date and competitive using the latest technology out there from Al Billes.  Then if things go well and according to plan — I will return for a full NHRA Pro Mod season campaign in 2014.”
