Reaper Redo!
Alberta drag racing fans will have yet another very cool Nostalgia bodied Funny Car to watch and enjoy this coming season. David & Edna Brant are giving their popular “Reaper” Funny Car a new “old” look….
After campaigning their 6.9 secs indexed Funny Car with a ’77 Pontiac Trans-Am (using a former Dale Pulde body) in more recent times, the race team will take the look of their program a couple decades back – with new plans to run a ’55 Thunderbird this season.
After doing some research a few years ago, the team acquired that body style and also the mold for it, from Saskatchewan’s Bruce Oliver.
“In our first year of racing (2011) as luck would have it we found Dale Pulde’s old “War Eagle” body, wrapped it in our theme and we were off to the races,” said David. “That was cool but it’s not what we really wanted to do — as our hearts were still in the ‘ 55 which was sitting cold and alone at my friends place in Edmonton. But over last winter circumstances changed and we had the space to work on the ’55.”
“We spent a lot of 22 hour days,” he added. “During all that time we learned a lot about body work, painting, metal fabrication and wrapping and with a lot of help from friends, family and past and current crew members – the new Reaper is here.”
The body will clad their team’s very proven Funny Car chassis which was originally acquired from Ontario’s Larry Dobbs. It will for sure also be a prime attraction within the very popular Rocky Mountain Nostalgia FC Association as well as other select Nostaglia-themed events this season.
Fans will get their first official look at the newest “Reaper” during it’s planned debut at the upcoming IHRA Mopar Rocky Mountain Nitro Jam at Castrol Raceway (July 4-6th).
