Shawn Cowie Seriously Injured in Motorcycle Accident

In an unbeliveable development, and just one week after winning at NHRA Las Vegas, rising Canadian star drag racer Shawn Cowie has received very serious injuries following a motorcycle accident….

The absolutely terrible twist of fate occured about 10:30 Saturday night in Nashville, TN.

Details of the accident are as follows:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Metro Police said professional drag car racer Shawn Cowie, of British Columbia, was critically injured Saturday night when his motorcycle was rear-ended by a car on Interstate 40.

It happened at about 10:30 p.m. near Rosa Parks Boulevard.

Cowie lost control of the motorcycle and was thrown over the bridge railing, according to police.

He fell about 27 feet and landed on shrubbery on 21st Avenue North, officers said.

Investigators said it appeared the collision with the motorcycle caused the driver of the car, Analisa Ramirez, to lose control and slide into a guardrail.

Police said the impact threw Ramirez into the middle of I-40. She was transported to Vanderbilt, where she remained in stable condition.

According to investigators, alcohol might have been a factor in the crash. Officers reported Ramirez smelled of alcohol, and a blood sample was taken for analysis.

Police said Ramirez was not wearing a seat belt.  No charges have been filed, police said, however the investigation has not been completed.

The latest we have on Shawn’s condition was received from Bill Moore, the team’s crew chief:

(April 11th):

“He is improving but they are worried about his leg and neck and back,” said Bill. ” The internal bleeding is under control it seems.  He is very lucky to be alive at this point.  We are all in shock and disbelief.”

“Here is an update.  Just got off the phone with Ron (dad). Shawn is pinned in many places (pelvis, ankle, femur…). The surgical team was spent after some 6+ hours of surgery so they closed him up and will try again on Wednesday. The head surgeon is concerned with the bone leading into the knee. He said it is the worst he has seen and he needs to come up with a plan on how to fix it. The alternative is not a good one. With what Shawn has had so far he will be confined to a wheel chair for 3-4 months at least.”
Again, thanks so much to everyone for the support and well wishes, I know it has helped

Get Well Soon Shawn!!!
