NHRA’s revelations this week for a new series sponsor and now a 2021 national event schedule could not have come at a better time…..

NHRA officials have announced a 22-race NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series schedule for 2021.  The reveal came rather quickly and helped to neutralize recent uncertainty and many questions which occurred after Sept 21st — when NHRA President Glen Cromwell revealed that previous primary series sponsor Mello Yello was exiting and that litigation against the Coca Cola company would be taken.

Negotiations were successful with Camping World – who will now take over that role — apparently for an initial 3-year term.   That has eased some initial panic and replaced it with much needed optimism.  While the 2021 national event schedule (below) might still be rather speculative — given a unpredictable Pandemic-related future — the plan does provide some clarity and sets a solid foundation for NHRA drag racing to move forward again.

The NHRA has chosen to defer it’s long history of starting their fabled annual series out at Pomona — and two events have been deleted (at Bristol and Chicago). 2021 will instead launch with the 52nd annual AMALIE Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals at Gainesville Raceway on March 12-14.

Details on Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock, and Pro Stock Motorcycle qualifying days as well as special exhibitions and specialty series that compete at national events will be announced in coming weeks.
