Western Canadian drag racing TAD class powerhouse flexes muscle again!…
Langley BC-based Cowie Racing were at the top of their game once again last weekend — winning at Seattle-area Pacific Raceways premier annual event, the Muckleshoot Casino & Resort NHRA NorthWest Nationals.
Driving his Mundie’s Towing & Recovery presented dragster, Shawn Cowie, NHRA’s 2X and reigning TAD class World Champion, recorded what was his 28th career NHRA nationals level victory and his 4th nationals title at the facility.
After pacing class qualifying, Shawn and company proceeded to dispose of the 12-car attended field with wins over Jackie Fricke (5.167 secs) and Mike Austin (5.176 secs) to then line up over top divisional rival and Oregon-based driver Joey Severance for the event title on Sunday afternoon.
In that conclusion, Severance did gain a slight starting line advantage (.034 to .065) however Cowie made up that difference quickly and roared to a convincing 5.207 secs 277.72 mph to 5.276 secs 272.34 mph decision.
Cowie’s 2026 event success comes after previously winning nationals races here in 2013 and also both 2018 & 2019.
“We’ve done well at both the national and the divisional races here,” Shawn commented. “I would have to do some digging to find out how many division races won (?) — but it’s been a few for sure!”
Shawn Cowie received deserving recognition during both pre-race and post race activities!
“Next to Mission — Pacific Raceways feels like home for our team,” he added. “It is always great to win somewhat locally because your family and friends all come out and support you — so you get to enjoy and take all that in together.”
This event victory also boosted Cowie’s national points standings as he contends for a potential 3rd straight NHRA Lucas Oil World Championship title — placing him 2nd behind current leader Jamie Noonan.
The Muckleshoot Casino & Resort Nationals also included some additional prestige for Shawn — who received both his 2025 NHRA Lucas Oil Championship ring and jacket during event pre-race ceremonies.
