Super Street Gunslingers Return!

Funny Cars and dragsters are cool — but drag racing will get more “real” the weekend of August 13-15th for the 2010 edition of the Canadian Street Car Nationals. That annual mid-summer classic goes down at Cayuga Dragway (Toronto Motorsports Park) Friday through Sunday….
Spearheaded by longtime Fast Street car proponent Joe DaSilva, the annual event has evolved into what is arguably the premier top independent event of the season in all of Canadian drag racing. The 2010 Canadian Street Car Nationals, reportedly the 18th attempt by DaSilva and his group, has all the makings of being the best yet.
“The history of the Canadian Street Car Nationals dates way back to the JP Shootout races,” said DaSilva. “Then we had a series of JP Reunion events before that morphed into the Canadian Street Car Nationals. I’m very proud of the reputation of the event. I am trying to keep a strong focus on this type of drag racing and I’m really not trying to compete with any other forms. My real objective is for everyone to come out to the race and have some fun. Despite what may or may not happen on the race track itself – at the very least I want people to leave happy.”
DaSilva, with the help of a long list of valued associate sponsors, and two major sponsors Matco Tools and Mickey Thompson Tires & Wheels, is ramping things up. This season’s event will see the return of things that worked well in the past as well as some new added dimensions.
The marquee class will once again be the Outlaw 10.5 Super Street, a category which features ferocious competition from cars capable of running near 220 mph. The EZ Street class, which seemingly continues to grow almost exponentially in both fan popularity and participation, will also be a top attraction.
The event, which will be all ¼ mile racing, will also include a variety of Fast Street car indexed class, the TNT 10.90 Super Series, and the Can-Am Stock/Super Stock circuit.
“Last year we had the first shootout for the Matco Tools toolbox which went over extremely well,” DaSilva added. “Each winner in all the brackets got a shot a winning by being closest to the index in that special shootout. That will be back again. We are also working with Mickey Thompson to bring in ten of the fastest drag radial tire cars out there, which will pay $5000 to win. Another new thing for this year is the fastest “Pure” street car shootout. That “King of the Street” event will be held Saturday evening and will be for true licensed fast street cars that people can drive to the race track.”
The 2010 Canadian Street Car Nationals will again have many other amenities for fans and racers including a manufactures midway and displays and a huge Show and Shine area.
And the event will be announced again officially by — Al Tucci. While Tucci manners are not necessarily always politically correct or for the meek, they are certainly colorful and popular with the masses.
