Canada Comes Close!
The rise to prominence within NHRA’s Lucas Oil Top Alcohol Dragster division continues for Edmonton’s Don. St. Arnaud…..
The ever improving A&J Construction racing team which has dabbled in the late rounds at previous NHRA national events — came the closest they have yet to winning during last weekend’s season-opening Circle K Winternationals at Pomona, CA.
At that event, St. Arnaud placed runner-up in the category driving his nitro-injected dragster, losing only by a narrow margin to Chris Demke in the championship final round late on Sunday. Don’s 5.328 secs 276.46 mph fell short of Demke’s superior 5.251 secs at 275.00 mph.
Prior to that St. Arnaud and his crew chief Javin Marvsich, had choreographed a series of truly impressive runs which included a 5.284 secs 277.83 mph #3 qualifier followed by back-to-back runs of 5.29 secs while winning rounds one and two.
Don was also credited with top speed of the meet overall for the Lucas Oil TAD class — a rather titanic 278.58 mph which is according to our records the fastest run ever by a Canadian in NHRA TAD class history!
