It really was to the “top of the world” for a Quebec-based drag racer last weekend!….

The Napierville Dragway drag racing team of Carl and Ronald Brunet — did achieve some world wide recognition last weekend while racing in Florida — at Orlando Speed Worlds’ annual Sports Compact Finals event.

Not only did the popular team (who also own and operate Napierville Dragway located just south of Montreal) win the event – they also notched the quickest and fastest run in history for a 4-cylinder door slammer – in their category.

Racing their Pontiac G6 and using a 4-cylinder GM Eco-Tech motor that is equipped with twin turbochargers — driver Carl Burnet was credited with a number of very quick runs — the best being a 6.078 secs at 229.94 mph – both ends of the record (for a 4-cylinder car) in the Modified Compact class.

That run easily qualified him #1 and he went on from there to best the field.  He did single in the final round when his scheduled opponent Sebastian David in his Mazda RX8 could not make the call.   Carl’s win came over a truly impressive international field that included not only top echelon cars from within the USA but also from Caribbean countries where high performance Sports Compact racing is a speciality.
