In what might have been the worst kept secret this off-season (LOL!)……

We now have received official confirmation from NHRA’s Division One office in PA that there will in fact be a new NHRA National Open event scheduled for this June at Toronto Motorsport Park.

The NHRA Northeast Division will hold a PC Richard.com National Open Event at Toronto Motorsports Park on June 17-19, 2016.

This will be the first NHRA event held at the facility in more than 10 years. In by gone years Cayuga Dragway had played host to a series of of very successful and high profile Divisional level races.  This National Open will rekindle some of that history – to a point.

The NHRA Classes scheduled to be contested at the National Open will be Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street. RCSS cars are also scheduled to be run in conjunction with the event.

It should also be noted that in a special incentive — provisions are being made to help out more local racers. Those competitors in Stock and Super Stock who are typically not permitted to compete in NHRA events (a.k.a IHRA class cars – Crate Motor Stockers, Stock GT, Pure Stock, Super Stock Production), will be permitted to compete at this event provided they pass all NHRA Safety/licensing rules.

Racers wanting to compete at this event can purchase a NHRA license and event certificate at the race.

Plans are that this event will be a double header feature (2 separate races) – one Saturday and one Sunday. Entry fee will cover both races.

There will be a track operated test and tune on Friday prior.

“We are excited to return to the Toronto area and look forward to growing this event for many years,” said NHRA Division One Director David Mohn.

The Cayuga event will compliment NHRA Division One’s other National Open held at Quebec’s Napierville Dragway (July 15-17th).  It will also bring the total number of NHRA National Opens held in Canada up to four for the 2016 season.   The other two are within NHRA’s Northwest Division 6 at Mission Raceway (July 23-24th) and at Medicine Hat (MHDRA) July 30-31st.

DragRaceCanada will receive more details from NHRA about the Cayuga date and we will post that in the future.
