Winter Series Round One — Kye Kelley, known for competing on the hit television show Street Outlaws: No Prep Kings, turned heads last weekend when he outlasted the quickest 32-car field in Pro Mod history to win the $50,000 Snowbird Outlaw Nationals presented by Motion Raceworks, at Bradenton Florida.
Driving his rather unorthodox steel-roof-and-quarters ’85 Camaro, Kelley fired off a stunning 3.594-second pass at 207.78 MPH in the M&M Transmission Outlaw Pro Mod presented by FuelTech and PJS Racing final round to defeat Ken Quartuccio and his 3.688 at 194.66 mph. He had defeated Mike Decker Sr. and Mike Decker Jr in rounds one and two before besting Canadian Spencer Hyde in the third round on a hole shot (3.626 secs to 3.624 secs). He defeated Kurt Steding in the semi final round – using another hole shot and a 3.62 secs to defeat Steding’s low ET of race day (3.592 secs).
For Kelly, the final round win light worth $50,000 and the DI Winter Series points lead.
It was the quickest 32-car field in the history of eighth-mile Pro Modified. Mark Micke (photo below) qualified No. 1 with a 3.591-second pass at 218.87 MPH, while Bob Glenn ended up on the bump spot with a 3.647 at 204.29 mph.
Spencer Hyde advanced the furthest for Canadian racers at the Snowbird Nationals – going to the third round before losing out on a narrow hole shot.
This was the first race of the all Florida state 3-race inaugural Drag Illustrated Winter Series presented by J&A Service. Race events #2 and #3 will go down (Jan 24-26 US Street Nationals & Feb 27-Mar 1st World Series PM).
