After a bit of a layoff – the circuit drivers for Eastern Canada’s PMRA, Quick 32 Sportsman Series and PBSS will get back at it during Grand Bend Motorplex’s Stratford Spectacular/Hot August Nationals – coming soon….
The tradition continues for one of the most popular drag races in Canada. Ready to celebrate its 18th year, the weekend of drag racing fondly known as The Stratford Days will continue with the August 8-10 running of the Stratford Spectacular Hot August Nationals presented by Ideal Supply & NAPA Auto Parts at the Grand Bend Motorplex.
This popular event started at St. Thomas Dragway in 1996 with a group of local South-western Ontario racers joining up with local businesses to promote a day at the track. The event has blossomed over the years, with solid support from the business community and more than 500 cars taking part in the quarter-mile racing.
The Stratford Days event has been held at Grand Bend for more than a dozen years.
Offering free tickets through local merchants in the Stratford area, the Stratford Days race has brought a lot of fans into the stands, and this year’s program offers a huge variety of drag racing action.
There will be full, points-meet events in the Pro Modified Racing Association, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and the Pro Bike & Sled Series. Also competing over the weekend will be the Outlaw 10.5 Association and a full complement of Bracket and Junior Dragster racing.
Thursday, August 7 the weekend gets underway with a Fan Appreciation and Car Show night with live music hosted by Boston Pizza in Stratford. On Friday August 8 the first qualifying round in the PMRA, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, the PBSS, and Outlaw 10.5 takes place at 7:15 pm, followed by entertainment presented by Ideal Supply in the NAPA tent.
On Saturday August 9, Time Trial sessions for Bracket racers in the morning, qualifying continues at 4 pm for the PMRA, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, the PBSS and the Outlaw 10.5 Association , as well as round one for the Nostalgia Nitro Funny Cars, Alcohol Funny Cars, and Jet Funny Car. After the third qualifier and a return of the show cars at 7 pm, the evening closes with fireworks and entertainment.
At 11:15 am Sunday August 10 elimination rounds begin, and the show cars will make their appearance at 2 pm. Final eliminations are scheduled to take place at 4:30 pm.
Three-time PMRA champion Bruce Boland of Stoney Creek Ontario presently leads the Championship Point Award Series in the PMRA, which is now in its 10th year. In the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, presented by NAPA Auto Parts, Top Dragster driver Tony Positano of Toronto Ontario heads up the points for the series’ sixth season, and 2013 PBSS champ Dan Cryderman of Thamesville Ontario heads up the fourth season of the PBSS with his Pro Bike entry. The PBSS is presented by Wiseco Performance Products.

Complimentary spectator event tickets will still be available at Ideal Supply & NAPA Auto Parts locations across Ontario, at businesses in Stratford.

The Pro Modified Racing Association (PMRA), www.PMRA.ca enters its 10th season of popular Pro Modified racing this year, while the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, presented by NAPA Auto Parts, www.Quick32.ca will begin its sixth season, and the Pro Bike & Sled Series (PBSS) presented by Wiseco Performance Products, www.PBSS.ca begins its fourth year of operation. Several times during the race season all three series compete at the same weekend events, offering a colourful, diverse, and exciting package of drag racing action.
