Winners are summarized from the first IHRA Outlaw Nitro Series Championship chase event for 2026!….
A new look and highly re-tooled IHRA kicked off for 2026 when newly rebranded Darana Motorsports Park in Benson North Carolina (formally Galot Motorsports Park) played host last weekend (Mar. 19-21).
The very well attended and received event marked a new beginning for the IHRA sanctioning being the first of twelve “national” level calibre races they have announced for this season.
All IHRA Outlaw Nitro Series events this season — will be exclusively and uniquely 1/8th mile affairs.

Top Fuel racing saw Gary Pritchett emerge as the winner driving the Doug Foley Racing dragster. After qualifying #2 (3.080 secs) Pritchett defeated low qualifier Jasmine Salinas in the final. 10 cars were entered for the 8-car field at Benson.

A very familiar name within IHRA Funny Car history – Dale Creasy — was the Nitro FC winner. Creasy qualified #5 before taking out Jacob McNeal, Del Worsham and co-finalist Terry Haddock (on a single) to win that 8-car eliminator.

A very formidable 26-cars battled for the lucrative Pro Modified event crown. It was Indiana’s Peter Norton who emerged victorious with five straight win lights on raceday.

IHRA racing will feature Nitro Harley class racing in 2026 also. Ohio’s Ryan Perry ran low ET of the event at 4.114 secs to qualifying #1 and ultimately prevail over that 8-bike field.

Outlaw Pro Mod class racing saw invading Californian Cam Hensley win the title in his supercharged 19 Camaro.

Fuel Altered class racing attracted 7 machines for season race #1. Cody Austin (from Texas) collected for that popular fan category.

Good fields of cars were within both TAD and TAFC classes. Rich McPhillips won the TAD title with his injected nitro car and Terry Mullins tamed TAFC with his Chevy Monte Carlo.

Mountain Motor Pro Stock went to Johnny Pluchino’s Ford Mustang – over a very tough 16-car qualified field.

In IHRA — cars that had been previously labeled as FS/XX or FSS – are called the Pro Stock class. Tony Scott was the first event winner with his COPO Camaro.
IHRA’s Pro-Am Sportsman class racing at this event featured wins by Jay Kirk (Top Sportsman), Joseph DiPasquale (TD), James Rawling (Super Stock), Dan Fletcher (Stock), Michael Markey (Quick Rod 5.70), Keith Mayers (Super Rod 6.40), Jeremy Bargo (Hot Rod 7.00). Anthony Mini took the inaugural IHRA SLED class title.
