Davenport Owns Bakersfield Again!

Alberta’s Les Davenport, who is widely revered as one of the best tuners in all of drag racing proved that he is a more then a capable driver too……

During NHRA’s marquee California Hot Rod Reunion (XXI) which wrapped up yesterday at Bakersfield, Davenport used a better starting line reaction time to win the event’s A/Fuel Dragster eliminator.

Davenport combined a .028 RT with a run of 6.260 secs at 213.16 mph to best Kin Bates’ quicker 6.244 secs 227.00 mph in the classic blown alcohol versus injected nitro final round.

For Davenport who entered a car in conjunction with fellow Calgarian racer Jirka Kaplan — it was his second win of the year at fabled Famosa Raceway near Bakersfield CA.    He had also won the NHRA’s March Meet there earlier in the year.

Les’s win came over a 12-car field and from the pole.  His 6.243 secs had qualfied him #1 and that was also low ET of the meet for the category.
