Record Romping! — Ontario’s Jay Santos scored a 3rd straight Pro Mod class title win, dating back to 2024, at Cayuga Dragway last weekend, during that tracks’s Canadian Nitro Nationals race. And Jay’s win did come at a Canadian record setting pace and with amazing consistency. After first leading the way in qualifying with the all time quickest 1/8th Pro Mod run in Canada (a stunning 5.619 secs) Santos rolled to victory over the 8-car field on Sunday (recording 3 more 3.6 secs elapsed times).
“We brought in Mark Savage (from Saskatchewan) to work with Angelo Aceto and help us set up and tune the car,” Jay stated. “Mark is the best out there as far as we are concerned — he’s the complete package. We had the car on rails the whole weekend — consistently running in the sixty’s. In fact we believe if we would not lost the one run Saturday night (oil leak/shut off) we could have gone in the fifties”.
“TMP’s track was top notch and on par with the USA tracks.” he added. “They have really turned that facility around and Mike is a “bad man” at prepping the track!“
Jay did run his Bickel-built ’69 model Camaro at Cayuga instead of his new late model Camaro. “We felt that car (’69) is better fitted to run the 1/8 mile. Our new car is getting prepped for 1/4 mile racing – so we can do some testing for that — soon.”

Wally Hauling — Canadian racer participation at NHRA’s sanction track in Yellowstone MT has always been supporting and significant. We can add in the words “impactive” too after the recent NHRA Lucas Oil Divisional Six race held there in late June.
At that event Canadian drivers corralled three NHRA class eliminators.
The meticulous “Bowtie cars” of Calgary’s Bob Gullett and Abbotsford BC’s Darrel Stobbe (above) each emerged with “Wallys” in hand. Gullett raced his “stick shift” F/S ’68 Nova to a 6-round win in Stock and Stobbe scored in the 5-round Super Stock tournament with his car show quality SS/JA Chevy Malibu.
In Top Dragster – it was Edmonton’s Casey Plaizier (below) earning his 2nd NHRA LODRS T/D title of 2025 driving his Mullis-chassis car. Casey collected 6 win lights in that class — hitting a near perfect 7.708 secs (7.70 dial) to win the final.

Tense for Tom — Maple Grove BC fast door slammer driver Tom Katinic did have some extra excitement last weekend during the “*Doorwarz” event hosted at Mission Raceway.
Tom was making another test run in his TK Performance/Lordco turbocharged Camaro and pulled off an extremely fast 6.36 secs at 233 mph run. However, as fate would have it — the pin in the chute failed causing a major crash with him bouncing off both left and right walls at top end. Thankfully Tom walked out of it and was not injured in the unlucky accident – but regrettably damage to the race car is reportedly pretty severe. (Here’s Cheers to a quick bounce back TK!)
