Kenny Lang is now a month removed from his outstanding final round appearance at the O’Reilly Auto Parts Spring Nationals in Houston, Texas, but the heartbreak of his DNQ during the NHRA 4-Wide Nationals in Charlotte, North Carolina, just two weeks prior to that outing, is what’s keeping the Manitoba native motivated heading into the Toyota NHRA Supernationals this weekend at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, New Jersey.

 

With no such thing as a provisional starting spot, the reality of NHRA drag racing can be harsh at times. Last year’s number four point’s finisher in the GSA Pro Mod Series, Lang experienced his worst outing in more than a year and a half at the season’s second event. “In Charlotte we struggled with a couple setup issues and mechanical failures cost us two qualifying runs,” said Lang “It was frustrating and disappointing to not get in, especially for all the sponsors who support us.”

But just as quickly as bad luck can ruin your day, good luck can swoop down and bring you right back to the top of your game. “It felt really good to get the car back on track in Houston,” mentioned Lang. Being able to come back like that after not qualifying was a big confidence builder and it put us right back in the points hunt.”

 

Heading into this weekend, Lang and his team have even more to be optimistic about. “We feel like we’ve got a handle on the car now and Al (Billes) has got everything freshened up for this race so we should be in good shape,” said a confident Lang.

 

Qualifying for the Toyota NHRA Supernationals gets underway Friday at 3:15 pm with the first round of eliminations scheduled for 4:15 pm on Saturday afternoon.
