Hunting for “Wally” in the Badlands

Alberta’s MHDRA (Medicine Hat Drag Racers Association) hosted it’s biggest annual event of the season last weekend.  Both local and invading racers were on hand in pursuit of “Wally” during the Lucas Oil NHRA Division 6 National Open event held in the heart of the Alberta Badlands at the Medicine Hat Drag Strip….

The annual event, which offers racers their one an only chance to win an official and coveted NHRA “Wally” — locally — included some NHRA Sportsman class car racing as well as a great ET bracket racing program.

In total eleven class categories were run off during both Saturday and Sunday schedules and a total of 22 “Wally’s” were awarded by event’s end.

Numerous Alberta based racers shined but it was Ken Goldale (from Medicine Hat) in Super Street (11.10) and Ed Matejewski (Sherwood Park) in Stock/Super Stock Combo that stood out – as each of those drivers won both days.

Saturday’s ET bracket class winners were Kevin Van Der Kooy (Super Pro), Bill Shade (Pro), Jayden Meyers (Sportsman) and Clayton Potter (Bike/Sled).

Also winning on Saturday in NHRA class car racing was Shelby Schultz (Super Comp 9.10), Warren Neitsch (Super Gas 10.10) and Todd Fleck (in Top Comp).

On Sunday, the NHRA class eliminators went to Danny Holmedal (Top Comp), Fred Schwab (Super Comp) and Bill Cawsey (Super Gas). The ET Bracket titles that day were won by Teryn McBain (Super Pro), Tanner Nagel (Pro), and Dave Toth (Bike/Sled).
