Tennessee-native and Pro Mod class powerhouse Von Smith raced to his first victory of the season during the spirited Pro Mod Drag Racing Series, presented by Powerocks held during NHRA’s Toyota Summernationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in New Jersey….
The event was the 4th of the year for the R.P.M. circuit racers who will contend for their championship at a total of 10-events during 2014. Von Smith’s victory made him the 4th different driver to win this season within the ultra competitive circuit.
In a battle between two supercharged cars, Smith, the No. 5 qualifier, drove his Al-Anabi Racing/Dr. Moon 69’ Camaro to a 5.966-second pass at 241.58 mph defeating No. 14 seed Jason Hamstra in the final. It was Smith’s second consecutive Pro Mod final round appearance.
Smith had earlier defeated 2013 NHRA Pro Mod champion Troy Coughlin and Clint Satterfield in rounds one and two before topping Canadian Eric Latino in a tense semi final round.
For Smith, who was the 2010 NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series world champion, it was his 6th career NHRA event victory.
