Summit Racing Returns to Pro Mod Competition with Kenny Lang

Officials from Summit Racing Equipment announced (March 9th) the company’s sponsorship of two-time IHRA Pro Modified champion Kenny Lang in NHRA’s Get Screened America Pro Mod Drag Racing Series today.
Beginning with last weekend’s Tire Kingdom NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville, Florida, the Canadian racer will be sporting Summit Racing’s distinctive paint scheme on his 1969 Camaro.
The partnership with Kenny Lang marks a return to Pro Modified by Summit Racing Equipment — a direct marketer of high performance parts and accessories.
“Summit Racing has a long and successful history in the Pro Modified category, and we look forward to adding to that record with Kenny Lang,” said Jim Greenleaf, Motorsports and Events Manager for Summit Racing Equipment.
“The diverse body styles and powertrains, wild paint schemes and unpredictable racing, make Pro Mods a perennial fan favorite. We look forward to reconnecting with those fans through our involvement with Kenny.”
The 43-year-old Lang made NHRA history at last year’s Gatornationals by becoming the first competitor to win an NHRA Pro Modified event and be awarded a “Wally” – the NHRA’s highly-coveted winner’s trophy. In his first race as a member of the Summit Racing team, the Winnipeg, Manitoba native will be returning to Gainesville to repeat his win from a year ago.
“It’s a tremendous opportunity for us to be associated with a company of Summit Racing’s stature,” said Lang. “Everyone on the team is looking forward to getting the season started — we just finished getting the car painted in Summit Racing colors. It’s a brand new Tim McAmis chassis, which is a big change for us after all the years with the ’53 Corvette. We felt we needed something newer and quicker. Everything is ready to go. With a new sponsor and a new car, this is an exciting time for our team, and we can’t wait to get our Summit Racing car out on the track. We think this will be a great year.”

Editors Post Race Note: Kenny Lang enjoyed a terrific debut for his new sponsor and driving his new car — going all the way to the semi final round at Gainesville!
Lang qualified 5th with a 5.897 secs at 247.52 mph (career fast speed) and then defeated Tim Tindle and Roger Burgess during rounds one and two. In the semi final round he jumped out to a slight starting line advantage versus Kahlid Balooshi but was eded out by the eventual event winner 5.911 secs to 5.947 secs.
