Scandianavian Internationals is Victim to Elements

European drag racing’s highly anticipated return visit to Tierp Arena in Sweden for the Scandinavian Internationals was unfortunatley a “no go” as the old enemy rain managed once again to take the shine of the event…

For the FIA 2012 tour it was the fourth of five to be rain-effected. The Pro classes managed to get up to the final round whilst the Sportsman somewhat less before the rain appeared again raining off any furtherance from the semi finals. All eyes are now turned to the European Finals that will be held at England’s Santa Pod Raceway in September (this coming weekend) to wind up this year’s Championships.

Finland’s Janne Ahonen managed a 4.044 second pass to qualify number one in Top Fuel but it all ended for him as in round one he was beaten bySweden’s Micke Kågered as both pedaled through shake, 4.353 win to a 4.369 lose. The final would have been between two of Finland’s finest, Anti Horto and Jari Halinen who took out Micke Kågered and Anita Mäkelä 4.254 to a 4.311 and a 4.234 to a losing 5.523 respectively.

The Maltese contingent continued to make a mark on European drag racing as Monty Bugeja made his presence felt with a 5.330/268.86 ticket in Top Methanol Dragster. He continued with his performance with a bye through round one, dismissing Timo Habermann in round two to face German, Peter Schöfer in the un-run final.

Top Methanol Funny Car was pretty much dominated by Sweden’s Leif Andréasson who sat on pole with a 5.592/257.32, a bye in round had him face and subsequently dismiss rival in the points Belgium’s Danny Bellio, 5.609/257.32 to a losing 5.836/237.64. Up against Andréasson in the final would have been Norwegian Arvid Grødem who had seen off Jonas Staflund and Johan Lindberg.

Sweden’s Leif Andréasson was the big favorite entering the TMFC final before the rains hit.

The Pro Mod wars saw a surprise top qualifier that of Norwegian Terje Håkonsen on a 5.968/233.66 but a leak had him shut down on the start line in round one. The final saw one usual contender and one surprise in the shape of Swede, Martin Lundqvist who would have come up against Micke Gullqvist had th rain not cut it all short.

Pro Stock saw this year’s star Sweden’s Thomas Lindström at the fore with a 6.666/305.81 and it was him that faced arch rival Jimmy Ålund in the un-run final. Lindström had earlier seen off Christian Sagelv then Richard Sundblom to reach the money run. Ålund meanwhile had taken care of Ulf Wagnhester then Michael Malmgren.

Sweden’s Thomas Lindström qualified #1 and was scheduled to race in the Pro Stock final with his Mopar.

Worthy of note was the performance by Top Fuel Bike rider, Sweden’s Peter Svensson who wacked out a worlds quickest 5.709 seconds during qualifying setting a new European record of 5.860 to boot.
