Veteran Western Canadian Sportsman drag racer Bob Gullett earns his biggest career catch….
The Calgary-based NHRA Stock eliminator driver prevailed to win a NHRA national event for the first time in his career when he scored in that category during yesterday’s concluding championship rounds at Auto Club Raceway in Pomona California.

Bob Gullett took full advantage of his first career NHRA final round appearance – delivering a perfect light to hold off newly crowned World Champion Jeff Strickland in the Stock eliminator class trophy dash.
Racing his F/S classed 1968 Chevy Nova, Gullett became the latest Canadian racer to win at NHRA’s Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series national event level when he held off newly crowned Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series World Champion, Jeff Strickland, in the all Chevrolet brand final round.
Gullet delivered a brilliant and perfect .000 RT in the final and a .009 package when he ran a winning 10.856 secs at 119.71 mph for the title. Strickland, racing his late model COPO could not quite close the gap – running a losing 9.470 secs at 137.99 mph.
Bob had entered eliminations after qualifying #6 of 63-cars entered running a .950 sub index. He then held off a slew of formidable opponents during the elimination rounds, beating Gregg Luneack, Bo Butner, Jeff Lindstrom, Dwight Machael and Jody Lang while advancing to his first ever national event final round.
For Gullett, the victory was truly a rewarding and probably very overdue one. He has had a reputation for numerous strong NHRA national event qualifying efforts and finishes in his past.
Bob is part of a two car racing team from Calgary that includes his wife Charlene – who races in Super Stock with a GT/IA-classed Oldsmobile Cutlass.

Bob Gullett won Canada’s 5th NHRA national event title for 2016 – with a nice score at the season-concluding AAA Auto Club Finals at Pomona CA
