Kalitta Motorsports Special Edition Mac Tools Dragster
Mac Tools Top Fuel Dragster Returns with Kalitta at Mac Tools U.S. Nationals….
Mac Tools, an industry-leading hand tools manufacturer, will once again serve as the primary sponsorship partner on the Top Fuel hot rod driven by drag racing superstar Doug Kalitta when the red and black Mac Tools Top Fuel dragster takes to the track to compete in the world’s most prestigious drag racing event, the 57th annual running of the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis.
Mac Tools served as the primary sponsor on Kalitta’s 8,000-horsepower Top Fueler from 2001 to 2008 and earlier this season at the NHRA Nationals event held in Norwalk, Ohio.
“It’s great to see that big Mac Tools logo on the side of our dragster again,” Kalitta, a 47 year-old resident of Ann Arbor, Mich., said. “We’ve had great success throughout the years with our friends at Mac Tools and we’re always excited to race under their banner.
“We’ve made some changes to the dragster since the previous event in Brainerd (Minn.), and we saw some great results from those changes when we tested in Indy last week. We’re really anxious to get back on the track with the Mac Tools dragster and hopefully take it to the Winner’s Circle at the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals.”
“Mac Tools is proud to partner again with Doug Kalitta and Kalitta Motorsports,” Tony Merritt, Mac Tools Sports Marketing Manager, said. “We are excited to see ‘Big Red’ back on the track and hosting the best Distributors in the Mobile Tool Industry.”
Kalitta is currently in sixth place in Full Throttle Top Fuel championship points and has already been guaranteed a spot in the NHRA’s six-race playoffs, the Countdown to 1, which begins for the top ten drivers in Full Throttle Top Fuel points at the next NHRA national event in Charlotte.
Kalitta and his team have posted three semi-final showings so far this season in Las Vegas, Houston, and Topeka, Kan.
Kalitta, a 14-year drag racing veteran in the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, has amassed 32 NHRA Top Fuel title trophies in 64 final-round appearances. He has finished in the top ten in Full Throttle championship points in every year of his straight-line career. He was the 1994 USAC National Sprint Car champion.
The Mac Tools U.S. Nationals begin Friday for the nitro-fueled classes with one qualifying sessions at 7:00 p.m. (ET). Two more qualifying attempts will take place on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. followed by two more qualifying efforts Sunday at noon and 3:00 p.m. The top 16 qualified cars in each pro class will race Labor Day Monday in final eliminations beginning at 11:00 a.m.
