Snap shots of Canadian racers who ran well and finished high within NHRA’s Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series chase this season….

For the second year in a row Canadian “left coast” powerhouse racer Shawn Cowie has finished second in final NHRA Lucas Oil World Championship TAD points. Shawn was denied that overall season objective when he lost in round #2 at the Toyota Nationals (last week) while Joey Severence went on to win the event.   Shawn and his Mundies Towing team did race again at Las Vegas last weekend (the final NHRA Lucas Oil Regional of the year) placing runner-up and running low ET for the class 5.190 secs.  The Cowie Racing camp can however take away some solid season solace with the fact they did prevail to again win a hard fought NHRA Lucas Oil Western Regional TAD title and rack up 3 event wins at the NHRA national event level.

Calgary’s Ken Mostowich had consecutive event runner-up finishes at Las Vegas. With his right hand man Charlie Marsh and racing his consistent running ’68 Camaro in the dragster chassis dominated Super Comp index class – Ken finished 2nd to Kevin Wright at the NHRA Toyota Nationals last weekend and then 2nd again to Matt Woodward during the NHRA Lucas Oil Regional race (yesterday).

Kingston Ontario native Al Kenny enjoyed his best season yet since his migration to the Top Dragster class category. Racing his Dan Page-built car “AK” managed an impressive 2nd place finish in NHRA Northeast Division One and a equally impressive 3rd place finish in overall NHRA TD World points last season.

Western Canadian Lucas Oil Sportsman racing veteran Norm Lapointe (Sherwood Park AB)  clinched a superb 2nd place finish NHRA Pacific Northwest Super Stock points this season. Racing his 2008 model GT/GA Chevy Cobalt – Norm was edged out only by a single point (334-333!) and that was by prolific Sportsman driver Jody Lang.

2nd generation driver Casey Plaizier (Stony Plain AB) also locked up a 2nd place finish within final NHRA Pacific Northwest Lucas Oil points. Racing the Plaizier Racing ’63 Corvette — Casey finished (tied for second with Phil Gilbert) and only behind Chris Cannon for the very competitive Super Gas title chase. Casey also ran very well at the recent NHRA Las Vegas events – including a semi-final finish at the Toyota Nationals.
