Quebec’s Naperville Dragway gets its FuelTech Pro Mod class series out of the season gate….
After losing it’s 2024 scheduled opening event to the elements in June, Napierville Dragway’s Fuel Tech Pro Mod Series got it’s racing season off to a start during the recent NHRA National Open held July 19-21st.
Defending 2023 FuelTech Pro Mod Series champion Cedric Beaulieu was the quickest qualifier for the class racing his SBL Structure-sponsored and XRE-turbocharged Camaro to the #1 spot with a very stout 3.718 secs 215.27 mph clocking. Cedric’s 215 mph terminal speed was a new track record for 1/8th mile Pro Mods.
While 10 cars were entered for the event, vying for one of the 8 available qualified positions, unfortunately some race attrition did impact that field – with only 7 cars available for the first round eliminations call.
That absence did in fact include Beaulieu, who was forced to withdraw his speedy machine from competition because of breakage (head gasket failure).
The event’s championship round did include some rather unexpected results – when finalists Christian LeClair (from Papineauville PQ) paired against fellow Quebec racer, Claude St Maurice.
And it was previously the unheralded LeClair who emerged victorious driving his turbocharged Camaro prevailing over St. Maurice’s now rebuilt supercharged ’68 Firebird.
Napierville Dragway’s FuelTech Pro Mod Series will be back on track next August 23-25 and then for their season closer Sep. 20-22.
