A Rough Season-Opening Ride!

The opening of the 2011 PMRA racing season was an auspicious one for Toronto’s Sam Andreacchi who flipped his supercharged Nova during the circuit’s first event of 2011….

Thankfully Sam did not receive any injuries in the incident which occured during Saturday’s 2nd qualifying session out at Cayuga Dragway Toronto Motorsports Park.

Sam Andreacchi's new look Pro Mod Nova took a hit at the PMRA season opener.

The Andreacchi car, which is co-owned by Domenic Calabria, and which is sponsored by Paul Wolf Lighting & Electrical,  appeared to get loose in the right lane near the finish line.   The car then crossed over and hit the left guardwall head on before flipping on it’s roof and sliding to a stop.

There was no fire and all of the strict safety rules employed by PMRA did what they were supposed to do.   A post inspection of the car did reveal that damage may not be too bad, and was restricted mostly to the front end of the race car.

Expectations are that the resilient Canadian team should be back on the circuit soon.

The opening round of the PMRA’s 5-event season series was unfortunately rained out on Sunday and will be rescheduled for completion back at Cayuga – June 11/12th.
