DSE Series Season Opener Features Familar Winners

Season opening event finds familiar names in TMP Winners Circle on Sunday.   Saturday rainout shortens series to best 7 of 9 races….

Over 120 DSE Automotive Sportsman Racing Series competitors converged on Toronto Motorsports (TMP) Park June 9th and 10th to compete in the Series opening event presented by Joes Transmission Service, making for some exciting and  hard fought on track racing.

The weekend started on a low note unfortunately when rain-washed out the first point’s race on Saturday thus making the series a best seven out of nine point’s race. However, Sunday morning saw sunshine and warm weather move in giving the TMP Track Crew great conditions to prepare a fantastic surface to race on from start to finish.

Competitors in the newly created Headsupracer.com Quick 12 category made a strong first impression with Southern Ontario race fans with fourteen competitors attempting to qualify in the twelve-car field. The final qualifying session saw Fonthill Ontario’s Steve Corriveau pace the field with a stellar 7.34 at 186 MPH and lead the twelve cars into eliminations.

As the rounds un-folded, the stage was set for a classic door car versus dragster final, where Jaime Tupper in his new 2000 Corvette faced off against a familiar face in Steve Ferstl and his 2008 swing arm dragster. Tupper received the head start, however he could not overcome Ferstls better .027 light and was forced to take the finish line and break out with a 8.219 on his 8.22 dial, leaving Ferstl to cruise to the winners circle running a 7.79 on his 7.75 dial and take home the $1000 winner’s check.

The Modified Eliminator Final round found former TMP Modified Track Champion Chris Etherington and his 1979 Pontiac Trans Am facing off against Bob Perkins and his 1967 Dodge Coronet R/T. Etherington left first with a .064 light to Perkins .130, and was able to stay out in front all the way for the win running a 11.497 on his 11.46 to Perkins 9.759 on his 9.70.

Jr Dragster finals featured a Canada versus U.S.A match up with Haley Baker from Ballinafad Ontario going up against Cheektowaga New York’s Johnathan Chittenden. Chittenden had a small advantage off the line with a .046 reaction time to Bakers .064, which helped him cruise to the victory running 8.134 on his 8.10 to Bakers 8.112 on her 8.02.
