It’s “that” weekend again! Western Canada’s premier annual drag racing event is once again on tap…
The 2018 Mopar Rocky Mountain Nationals (presented by JB’s Power Centre) goes down for the 16th straight season this coming weekend at Edmonton’s Castrol Raceway.
The event which a very long time ago established itself as the single most best fan attended drag racing event for all of Canada each season and which is now categorized officially as a NHRA Northwest National Open, will feature three days of intense drag racing. That will again include it’s signature special emphasis on showcasing local Western Canadian talents.
Racing fans will enjoy not only some of the very best NHRA Lucas Oil level drag racing series racers in competition within a scheduled “double header” race, they will once again, courtesy of Castrol Raceway’s Rob and Kimberley Reeves, be able to experience a wide variety of regional Professional eliminators and exhibition racing.
That feature car lineup will include lots of nitromethane again — with a pair of Top Fuel dragsters, 8-car qualified fields in Nitro Nostalgia Funny Car, Nitro Bikes and AA/FA all booked in. In addition the race event will feature the WDRL’s super cool brand of Pro Mod racing, some of Canada’s very best (and world record holding) A/FD cars, Pro Drag Bikes and 6.90 secs indexed alcohol Funny Car racing.

Hometown Edmonton fan favourite Tim Boychuk will attempt to again win the prestigious Mopar Rocky Mountain Nationals Nitro Nostalgia Funny Car crown.
The “Jelly Belly” Wheelstander will entertain as will some jet cars and there will also be a very special guest.
“On Saturday we are being joined by NHRA 2x World FC Champ Tony Pedregon,” confirmed Kimberley Reeves. “Tony will be our guest for most of Saturday – with a couple of autograph sessions at the Mopar display on the midway. Tony’s visit is courtesy of NHRA to show their support and solidarity behind our event. He will also be visiting our Thunder Alley VIP Guests area along with 3 private race day functions for Mopar, Castrol Wakefield, and Habitat Designs.”
Drag racing action for the 2018 Mopar Rocky Mountain Nationals gets underway on Friday with time trials and with the first round of Pro Qualifying and exhibition runs scheduled for 7:00 PM that evening. Two more Pro sessions will happen on Saturday (at 6:00 and 9:00 PM) which will set the fields for eliminations that follow on Sunday.

Calgary’s Mike Scott who has enjoyed significant success within NHRA’s M/T Top Fuel Harley series will bring his talented team back to Edmonton.
Racing within the NHRA Lucas Oil level drag racing series categories (Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street) as well as Castrol Raceway’s amazing bracket racing program (including Top Dragster, Top Sportsman) will help to keep the racing action at a feverish pitch both Saturday and Sunday — when two complete and separate event eliminator programs are presented.
