In 2016 – NHRA’s Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Divisional level produced some very significant results for Canadian female racers….
It was certainly “good going girls” for three Western Canadian provincial racers who had their best career placings within NHRA’s Lucas Oil geographical Division’s five and six.

Racing her cool ’66 Ford Fairlane S/ST car – Regina’s Sandy Cawsey finished first overall in final points for NHRA’s West Central Division 5 in 2016. Sandy used strong event finishes at Topeka KS (in July) and at Salt Lake City (in Sept) to prevail in final points. It should be noted too that her husband (Bill) who also races a Ford – finished tied for 1st in the final S/G points talley for NHRA Division 5!

Francesca Giroux – who is daughter to Western Canadian Sportsman racing icon Eddy Plaizier – had a tremendous season within NHRA’s demanding Top Dragster class during 2016. “Frankie” (as she is affectionally known) placed second in final Division 6 points during a season which saw her earn her first career win at the NHRA divisional level – scoring at Mission Raceway’s LODRS event back in June.

Another second generation racer to make her mark this season was Alberta’s Caitlin Setters (who is daughter to Bryon Setters). Racing her GT/BA G5 from Red Deer, Caitlin placed a superb #2 in final Division 6 Super Stock points – second only to Jody Lang . The year 2016 saw her also earn her first win at the divisional level – scoring at Salt Lake City Utah in September.
