NHRA UNLEASHED EXPANDS SCHEDULE TO SEVEN EVENTS — SET TO VISIT MIDWEST AND WEST COAST VENUES DURING 2011…..
NHRA Unleashed, a celebration of American horsepower, will visit seven new venues in 2011 and the popular heads-up drag racing series will be showcased at facilities in the Midwest and West Coast for the first time, it was announced today by officials from the world’s largest motorsports sanctioning organization.
NHRA Unleashed (nhraunleashed.com) events give fans of all makes and models of muscle cars and all things that go fast the ability to enjoy a sensory-overload high-performance weekend. Each NHRA Unleashed event offers racing, automotive displays, and much more. All of the activities are geared toward celebrating the love affair that young and old hot-rodding enthusiasts have developed with the car culture.
The 2011 season will open at South Georgia Motorsports Park in Cecil, Ga. on May 6-7 before heading to Tulsa Raceway Park in Oklahoma on June 3-4. No Problem Raceway Park in Belle Rose, La. will host the series June 17-18 and it will visit Cordova Dragway Park in Illinois July 15-16. After taking the month of August off, the series will resume in September with two events – Milan Dragway in Michigan on Sept. 9-10 and Lebanon Valley Dragway in New York on Sept. 16-17. The series will conclude in Southern California Oct. 14-16 at Auto Club Dragway at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif. Six of the seven NHRA divisions are represented in the 2011 NHRA Unleashed schedule.
“We are very excited to expand the 2011 NHRA Unleashed schedule to seven events and to be able to offer the tour to new regions of the country, introducing the events to nearly all of NHRA’s divisions,” said Ray Wilkings, director of operations for NHRA Unleashed. “The new schedule presents great geographic diversity as well as affords our racers the opportunity to compete at some of the best maintained and operated facilities in the U.S. Last season was a great beginning for NHRA Unleashed and we look forward to building even more momentum in 2011.”
Once again NHRA Unleashed will feature an incredible variety of classes, including the Outlaw 10.5, Limited Street, and x275 Radial, as well as index classes for 8.50, 9.50, 10.0, 11.0, 12.0, and 13.0.
All NHRA Unleashed winners will continue to receive the famous Wally trophy.
NHRA will partner with Disrupt/ive Studios Inc., producers of the popular drag racing show PINKSTM, in hopes of creating programming around the NHRA Unleashed events again in 2011 and media opportunities for the series are still being contemplated.
