OSCA Hits Season Midway
By: Mark Ackert
With round #3 of the Ontario Street Car Association wrapped up, staff will have to carefully tally the points as the races have tightened up as competitors are well into race mode at the midway point of the season.
The racing of course took center stage at Toronto Motorsports Park but off in the pits, a few gas cans were strategically placed around the pit area of John Konstantinou as he and his beautiful fiancé Keri Preston put on their annual fundraiser to support The Race Against MS. The couple first started the fundraiser in 2008 in hopes to bring awareness to MS as John battles with the disease. Their goal is to raise money for research that will hopefully one day find a cure. Racers are becoming more generous as a total of over $1000 was raised this year with more donations coming in form racers unable to attend the event. An unexpected surprise to the fundraiser was the use of a 2011 Lincoln Navigator stretched Limo that was graciously donated for the weekend from McClay’s Transportation in Ingersoll, Ontario. Being driven by myself, the Limo was making passes at $10 a head which in turn helped raise $430 for the MS fundraiser. Loaded with people, the Limo was able to stop the clocks in 19.5 seconds at 72 mph. On a dry run on Sunday I was able to get an impressive 18.59 at 76mph. Not bad for a vehicle weighing 7700lbs that can do the burnout and stage all at the same time.
After a tremendous down pour Saturday evening after qualifying ended, racers were treated to a tremendous fireworks display put on by the B-Town Boys later in the evening after the grounds had dried up. After the last of the campfires were extinguished racers would be delighted to wake up to sunny skies on Sunday morning which continued throughout most of the day. The track was in fine form as usual and many competitors would take advantage of the conditions to run their personal bests.
