Recent results and musings from within Canada’s Pro Mod community – from 1-2-3 fronts!

Pro Mods on a Mission — Western Canadian Pro Mod racers were part of the act for Mission Raceway’s recent Doorwarz 14 event chapter held in late June.

Despite those area class runners currently being without any title series sponsorship, with support of Mission Raceway’s own Kevin Ness, a group of 7-cars were able to support that iconic event.

And that effort did produce a popular home town victor with Nick Duda (from Langley BC) collecting the victory.

Nick Duda (from Langley BC) took the Pro Mod class win at Mission’s recent “Doorwarz 14” race.

Duda, a very talented tuner and driver within the fast door slammer spectrum drove his super cool turbo-charged ’63 Corvette past Alberta’s Scott Blake in the final round of that 8-car 1/8th mile affair.

Duda, who had won huge last fall (at the SCSN race in Las Vegas) ran low ET of eliminations in the finale hitting 3.802 secs at 199.56 mph to Blake’s 3.974 secs 187.03 mph.

Pro Mod racing had been paced at Mission by Eric Halverson’s 3.703 secs driving his supercharged Washington-state based Corvette – which held up for low ET of this event. R/UP Scott Blake (from Red Deer AB) driving his nitrous-injected Camaro, had qualified 2nd at 3.719 secs.

Alberta’s Scott Blake roared to a R/UP placing for PM at Doorwarz – 2026.

Nitro Nationals/Non-Decisive — The second ever event effort for Eastern Canada’s all new Pro Mod circuit was part of Toronto Motorsports Parks Nitro Nationals race (July 3-4).

Ian Hill Racing Productions’ (IHRP) second instalment for the $100,000 5-event Canadian Pro Mod Shootout Series drew in an impressive 13-car entry list.

Highlights from the weekend included Western Canadian Pro Mod standout driver Jordan Lazic (NHRA’s 2024 Pro Modified World Champ) – in the house!! Jordan got the call to pilot the second Santos Motorsports entry, and he took that new combo right to the top qualifying spot with a 3.700 et at 204.77 mph!

“That was my first time ever racing down in Eastern Canada,” Jordan (from Rutland BC) affirmed. “Mark Savage (tuner) and Angelo Aceto (car chief) called after talking with Jay saying they wanted to test their new late model car Camaro as well.”

2024 NHRA PM World Champ Jordan Lazic had an impressive first ever outing within Eastern Canada.

“There are a lineup of great drivers they could call – I’m thankful they chose me,” he added. “The team camaraderie and family aspect they bring to track – is very cool and I’m waiting very patiently, hoping they may ask my dad and I to come back.”

Also in qualifying, “Big Sal” Cammisuli wrangled his supercharged’67 Shelby 500 Mustang to three consecutive passes at 3.72 secs zone to qualify #2.

“Big Sal” Cammisuli — (near lane) was impressive at the IHRP Pro Mod event hosted by TMP.

Regrettably race day eliminations were cut short because of rain — but round one winners did include Sam Andreacchi taking a major upset win over Jay Santos, “Big Sal” over Claude St. Maurice, Michigan’s Jay Kalso winning over Al Martorino and Jordon Lazic taking out Quebec’s Pierre Chicoire.

Serge Giroux and Steve Boardman had both qualified for Sunday’s added Pro Mod “Chicago Style Shootout” race which was set to run off just before also being cancelled.

“Similar to all IHRP events, each event is intended to be contested to completion over each weekend,” explained Ian Hill.  “So with the weather shortened event, payouts were split among the racers still in competition and points tallied accordingly.”

Race event #3 for the IHRP Pro Mod Shootout Series will next be part of Grand Bend Motorplex’s Canadian Nationals presented by Gulf Fuels — coming Aug 1-2.

A Bit of a “Rocky” Mountain Edition — Pro Mod cars were also part of the show feature equation for RAD Torque Raceway’s Rocky Mountain Nationals event (July 10-12).

That program drew in 8 machines for competition and it was Saskatoon’s Mike Gondziola who was most certainly the performance star driving his unreal nitrous-injected C7.

Mike qualified right at the top — producing a brand spanking new RAD Torque Raceway Pro Mod track record — at 3.789 secs!

Saskatchewan’s Mikę Gondziola reset the RAD track record for Pro Mod cars and gained the Rocky Mountain Nationals event title!

Class eliminations were a bit convoluted, including a number of DQ runs which did result in both some confusion and also there not being any semi final round pairings. Both Gondziola and his opponent Rick Barnhart were advanced to the final round based on first round win decisions.

Rick Barnhart was R/UP at the Rocky Mountain Nationals with his Alberta-based machine.

In that finale “Gonzy” clocked in at 3.846 secs at 195.91 mph to out run Barnhart’s super cool ’71 Mustang which shut off.

Edmonton’s very own Chevy Reeves entered his immensely popular “The Yeti” Chevelle – but had a red light foul in round one.
