Rocky Mountain Pro-Am Double-Header!

Sportsman racing was at a very high intensity during last weekend’s IHRA Mopar Rocky Mountain Nitro Jam held at Castrol Raceway as the IHRA presented two complete Summit Pro-Am events…

The on-track action featured some truly dominating performances, particularly by four different Canadian drivers who each “doubled-up” by winning both days.

Casey Plaizier won one of four Canadian drivers that doubled-up at Edmonton's IHRA Pro-Am event.

“Calgarian” Art Congdon won in Super Stock both on Saturday and Sunday driving his ultra reliable GT/DA ’91 Oldsmobile.  Previous RMN winner Casey Plaizier (Edmonton) took his ’56 Chevy to both of the weekend’s Hot Rod (11.10) titles as did dragster driver  Eric Goulden (Airdrie AB) in the Quick Rod (9.10) indexed class.  Local ET bracket racing stalwart Derek Rose showed his stuff both days driving his meticulous Auto Parts Plus sponsored ’62 Acadian.   Derek knocked off his racing father Garnet in Sunday’s final showdown for Box ET and also won in that category Saturday night.

The Sportsman event portion featured truly terrific action in Top Dragster and Top Sportsman classes both of which featured tremendous fields in car count and quality.

Manitoba’s Dale Patterson claimed her first TD “Ironman” on Sunday after Tom McAvoy (Edmonton) won on Saturday.   Sunday’s TS final went to the ’63 Corvette driven by Randy Modersohn (Edmonton).  Darryn O’Conner (from Fort St .John BC) who won at Edmonton last year – scored the Saturday night TS eliminator title.

With their victories, all of the IHRA class car winners have assured their invitations to the very lucrative annual Summit Tournament of Champions event which will be held in Memphis TN this coming October.
