As amazing as it seems — the upcoming 2020 racing season will include an important milestone achievement within Eastern Canada…
Credit most certainly goes very deep for this! In 2020 — the Ontario-based Can-Am Stock/Super Stock Association will celebrate it’s 25th year of existence!
According to Canadian drag racing history annul’s – the first S/SS race occurred at St. Thomas Dragway, and was organized by John Fletcher, and it was there and then that a seed was set for the series.
.
“It was after that first Stock/Super Stock (1995) event that I believed there was potential for a series to be successful with area Canadian and American racers,” said Doug Box, a long time and original participant. “So, with my brother, Greg Box, a logo was designed and many phone calls were made to set up and organize a series. Then ten years later, following a presenting sponsorship period from Wix (Dana Corporation), Smith Performance Specialties took over the running of the series.”
.
Ever since this circuit has certainly bucked the odds while standing the test of time — a credit to the vision and the ongoing dedication and tenacity of it’s many racing members and dedicated sponsors.
“All of our committee members, are excited about this milestone anniversary season,” Doug added. “25 years is quite an accomplishment. For this series to operate, there are many people volunteering their time and effort to make it a success. The committee currently consists of Fred and Victoria Smith, Tony Valerio and Anne-Marie Brumm-Valerio, Rob and Amanda Becker, Murray Daniels, Chuck Nagy, Dave Turner, Katie Burkhart-Wisman and myself. There are also many family members of our racers that help with the day-to-day running of the events.”
.
“I would like to acknowledge the Smith family’s participation in taking over the series and growing it into what it is now,” he added. “Fred, through his industry connections, has created a great sponsorship base, which continues to grow each year. As a current committee member, with a unique insight into the series’ inception, I look forward to many more years of fantastic racing with our friends in the Can-Am Stock/Super Stock Series.”
